St Hild Centre for Church Planting

The St Hild Centre for Church Planting is a national centre for church planting in the North of England.

Over the next decade, denominations in the North of England aim to revitalise churches and plant thousands of new Christian communities for mission. We hope you’ll join this great adventure, as our vision is to train the leaders, teams and expert practitioners who will make this movement of kingdom growth a reality.

The programme covers key areas such as leadership, missional strategy, intergenerational and intercultural engagement, lay and ordained vocations, youth engagement, governance, and safeguarding in larger churches, supporting participants working with both established and more innovative resource church models.

The Asbury Theological Seminary Doctor of Ministry (DMin) is a cohort-based doctoral programme for experienced ministry leaders, designed to deepen theological depth and sharpen leadership capacity while you continue in active ministry.

Through rigorous academic study, structured field research and engagement with a diverse cohort of peers, you will grow as a practitioner-theologian — someone who brings scholarly depth to the practice of ministry and draws on the practice of ministry to enrich theological reflection.

Seedbed is perfect for lay leaders looking to start new churches, whether you’re joining a planting team, leading one, or just exploring this path.

The Seedbed training is straightforward and practical, open to everyone, no matter your background. You don’t need to be academic, a church leader or know where and when you want to plant a church.

Hosted by experienced church planters and practitioners, Explore Church Planting unpacks God’s call to multiply and plant new churches, an overview of what this could involve, and an invitation to think and pray about what God might be calling you to start something new.

The Plant Course is a seven-session programme designed to equip church planters and their teams in the 3 to 9 months leading up to their plant. It covers the practical aspects of church planting, such as strategy, finance, funding, communications and self-leadership.

We use material developed in the Diocese of London, which has been used to train more than 180 teams so far. Over the seven-week course, which has approximately 40 contact hours, participants will receive input from experienced practitioners, explore case studies and develop their own strategies through team reflection, coaching, discussion and sharing.

Students on the track are typically enrolled in a church planting module or working on
a dissertation or independent learning project focused on church planting or a related topic, which forms a key part of their academic journey.

I have found Seedbed to be hugely important to me and my involvement in a small church. Right from the start, where we were encouraged to do a prayer walk, it helped me identify challenges and opportunities within my church and the wider community. I’ve looked forward to each session as it has helped me to learn about methods and resources, and challenged my perceptions and understanding.” – Seedbed Student
